On my way to work I passed a local church who decided to have
its spring festival today. And that is where I spotted a couple of spotless Belairs
in the parking lot. HMM, mini car show, I thought. I looked at the time, and
figured I would not be able to pop in, purely because I would be late for work.
Yes, work, on a Saturday, a day I should be spending with family, not answering
phones and helping people who are, for a lack of a better description,
frustratingly stupid. All this because one SOB on the other side of the pond
decided an entire weekend with family is too much.
So now, instead of admiring these beauties from the ‘60s, you
are now stuck with me going on about how cool Brabus actually is, and how many
people will die when they own one, because of stupidity. The same kind of stupidity
like the people who insist on phoning on a Saturday to find out why they
can’t take a ak47 on an airplane.
Onward then. The Name Brabus sound like it may be some
monster from Greek mythology, and
rightfully so. If motoring was to have comparison adjectives, Mercedes would
look something like this;
Quick, Kompressor, AMG, shit that’s fast, AMG Black series, Saturn v5 rocket
speed, Brabus
Although Brabus is not officially related to Mercedes, they
are the chosen performance tuning company when your AMG just doesn’t cut it. No
what they do though, is not tune your car, instead, they take apart the entire
engine, do some black magic, and add enough power to make one wonder where you
can get adult diapers.
The youngest in their line-up is the 850 6.0 bi-turbo coupe,
based on the S63 ACoupe. That’s where it stops though. The 850 pushes a mind
bending 625kW and 1450Nm. The name 850 is picked because that’s the amount of
horsepower. It claims to do 0-100 in 3.5 seconds, and run all the way to
350km/h.
They also hold the record for the world’s fastest street
legal saloon car, clocking in at 366km/h set in 2006– fast enough to make some Ferraris
look like a snail. The news gets better
though. Brabus is now available in South Africa, and although some models can
be seen alongside McLaren, Aston Martin and Rolls Royce in South Africa and Cape
Town, plans are made to open a standalone Brabus dealership in Melrose arch in
2017
Want more info on how to get a Brabus, call Daytona in
Johannesburg or Cape Town. Just don’t ask how much they are, because you can’t
afford it!
